Music Mondays: Kumbia Queers

Kumbia Queers

Welcome to another Music Monday!

This week I’m switching up the format a little bit.

About a year ago I came across the Kumbia Queers through a post on the Shameless Blog. The Kumbia Queers are a group of women from Argentina and Mexico and according to Shameless

“[the Kumbia Queers] combine the fearlessness and energy of punk rock with the infectious bubbliciousness of pop music. Oh, and they’re also really gay. If the name Kumbia Queers didn’t give that away already.”

There is a really interesting interview with the Kumbia Queers on the Macha Mexico website.  In this interview, the Kumbia Queers talk about different meanings for the word ‘queer’ and how it can be used to claim space for all people marginalized by dominant views of gender and sexuality as well as discussing the experience of having an all-female identified band in a predominantly male-identified industry.

Besides some interesting views, they also have really fun music – Check out their song Chica de Calendrio!

Over and Out,
Charlie
