An Introduction and health related information

Welcome to “Living in Kingston: An FTM perspective”! I want to start off by saying that this is my story and my perspective. Not every trans person is the same and not every transition is the same. Most of my blogs will probably be medical related because that is the most prevalent topic in my life at this time. Other than that there is nothing particularly interesting about me. I will probably cover many other topics but be prepared for a lot of medical topics surrounding my transition in Kingston.

I recommend that anyone who wants to take medical processes into their own hands consult a medical professional prior to doing so (if that is possible). This is not a medical guide. However, there will definitely be some useful information that you can take with you and discuss with your doctor. If you do not have a doctor and are an adult, making your own (responsible and educated) decisions about your physical and mental health is sometimes necessary.

Speaking of doctors…if anyone in the community is in need of a doctor or your current one is trans/homo/or otherwise phobic, let me know and I can give you contact details for a really great doctor. She is totally awesome and queer friendly and will be taking new patients in April this year.

Something else along the same health related theme:

Spread the news! Currently there is a trans health survey being conducted by the organization TransPulse. I’m not sure how much longer the survey is running but thought I’d mention it just in case there is still anyone who hasn’t heard about it. The survey is to collect information from trans people in Ontario about their health care experiences. The goals they hope to achieve by gathering this information are listed on the TransPulse website here: http://www.transpulse.ca/theProject.html.

That’s all for now! Look for another post in a few days, where I will discuss more about my life in Kingston and the process I have taken and will be taking in my transition.

 Have a great weekend!
