Music Mondays: The Butchies

The Butchies

The Butchies

Heyo Everyone!

Sorry for the late post…I’ve been running a little behind today. For this Music Monday, I have a band that I’ve been listening to for the past 8 years or so…The Butchies!

The Butchies were together from 1998 – 2005 and are currently on hiatus. The Butchies consist of Kaia Wilson who provides vocals and guitar, Allison Martlew who also lends some vocal backup and bass and Melissa York on drums. Kaia and Allison also played in the band Team Dresch – will be featured in a future post! – before forming the Butchies. They are currently playing with Team Dresch again.

The Butchies have four albums – Are We Not Femme? Population 1975, 3 and Make Yr Life. They have been called queercore crusaders. Not a lot of information is available online about them but they do have a myspace page.

The Butchies were the first openly queer band I found and had a huge impact on me for that. I found them when I was 13, newly out to my family and really starting to find out about queer life. Their music is fun and often offers an honest portrayl of what it’s like to grow up / be queer.

I’ll leave you with their latest single: Send Me You from their album Make Yr Life. Enjoy!

Over and Out,
Charlie
