Lucas Silveira of the Cliks
Welcome back for another Music Monday! Today I’ve got a band I’m sure most of you are at least familiar with: The Cliks.
Currently, Lucas Silveira is the only member of the Cliks since bassist Jen Benton and drummer Morgan Doctor decided to leave the band this September. However, Lucas has still been busy playing some shows and looking for new members so never fear – the Cliks aren’t done yet!
As you probably know, something that is generally focused on when the Cliks are brought up is that fact that Lucas is very open about is trans-identity. But I still believe his true claim to fame is his fantastic voice, his amazing live performances and his dedication to his fans and audiences. Something you may not know though is that the name ‘The Cliks’ is derived from a mix of the words ‘clit’ and ‘dick’.
In June of this year, the Cliks released their second full length album ‘Dirty King’. I find this album similar to ‘Snakehouse’ in terms of lyric themes (relationships, struggles with identity) but definitely think that musically, the band really starts to open up. Although musical themes are not overly complicated, there’s a unique sound between songs and some experimentation with different styles. A good album to have on hand and as always, the songs are worth being experienced live if you have the chance!
I’ll leave you with a song (live and acoustic) from Dirty King called I’m Not Your Boy – one of the most emotionally charged songs on the album for me.
Over and Out,
Charlie
